Latin American Youth Forum presents Together as One : 19th February (10:30 am – 6:00pm)

Once again, Latin American Youth Forum (LAYF) takes over the most important artistic venues in London. The turn this year is for London City Hall that will be hosting hundreds of youngsters from across London to discuss and debate issues affecting them. The event that was called “Together as one” by LAYF members will also help as a platform for migrant youths, to showcase their artistic skills and get recognition for what they do.

LAYF is therefore calling for all migrant youths interested to take the lead among their communities to attend on the 19th February 2010 at the London City Hall. Front to front, migrant young people will exchange opinions and strategies with local authorities about the major concerns relating to migration issues from a youth perspective. Representatives of different groups will expose important topics that will be answered back by members of parliament, shadows MP, metropolitan police members, researchers, and community cohesion officers from different councils and unionists amongst others. The two-day event is a gathering initiative, not only to convoke youths but also migrants, from the known “hard to reach” communities living in the United Kingdom. The LAYF main objective is to create awareness of young people’s role in this society by providing spaces where young people are able to grow politically and use the arts as a tool to build community, integrate and act as one. “Together as one” which took place at Tate Modern last year was attended by more than 250 young people, 10 representatives from local authorities, migrant organizations and European Bodies.

The result of Together as one 2009 was the consolidation of five motions that will be discussed at this year’s “Together as one”. LAYF has been working in collaboration with London City Hall to facilitate new platform for migrant youths, to empower themselves and access art spaces that had been segmented to only a specific part of society. Tate Modern and the Greater London Authority this year are taking a step forward in the aperture for new audiences; LAYF is delighted to be part of this new initiative. We would like to take this opportunity to invite you to take part of this amazing artistic take over. Do not forget to pass on the voice …
