les ballets C de la B/Rosalba Torres Guerrero/Lucas Racasse Pénombre Lilian Baylis Studio ( 5 – 7 May 2011)

French-Spanish choreographer Rosalba Torres Guerrero presents the world premiere of her first choreographic work for Belgian collective les ballets C de la B.
Inspired by her travels in Japan, Pénombre (meaning ‘twilight’) is a dance-video performance which explores themes of cultural ‘otherness’. It is performed on stage by Guerrero and features maverick French illustrator and video director Lucas Racasse in video footage.

Taking inspiration from Japanese literature, in which characters metamorphose and the boundaries between femininity and masculinity merge, Guerrero and Racasse make striking use of lighting, set and costume to reflect on the contrasts and commonalities between Western and Asian cultures.

Rosalba Torres Guerrero has worked with some of the most radical and imaginative contemporary dance talents in the world, from Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker to Philippe Decouflé and founder of les ballets C de la B Alain Platel. Co-produced by Sadler’s Wells, this brand new work marks the introduction of an exciting new choreographic talent into this highly influential performance collective.
