FILM l SALUD : Cuba and the crisis in world health – 31st July, London

This films tells the dramatic story of Cuban doctors and health volunteerwho are working in the The Gambia, Hondu-ras, South Africa and Venezuela. Don’t miss this 31st July. 2pm  * SALUD: Cuba and the crisis in world health

All these countries have been suffering from health crises. One of the main causes of this is the ruthless and relentless enticement of doctors and nurses to the rich western countries which is creating a growing and chronic shortage of medical personnel.

At the same time, it is a little known fact that Cuba lends, completely for free (with one exception) more doctors to the poor countries of the world than all the rest of the world combined !

The arrival of a Cuban medical team in these countries has a dramatic impact on the health situation. It also turned out to be extremely controversial and bitterly resisted by the reactionary medical establishment in these countries.

This absolutely fascinating film depicts the clash of Cuba’s humanitarian and socialist ethos with that of capitalist medicine in these countries. This 1½ hour documentary will probably be the best film you will see all year.
