The Moonflower chamber opera at Tête à Tête – The Opera Festival : 18 – 19 August / 2011

The Moonflower, a chamber opera by Brazilian composer Mario Ferraro, with a libretto by Eva Danickova, is inspired by the lives of Margaret Mee, a British botanist and artist explorer, and Chico Mendes, a Brazilian environmentalist and activist. They take us on a journey through the Amazon, full of magic and mysticism and also of human struggle and undying hope. The Moonflower, known as the Queen of the Night, is hiding deep in the flooded forest. She opens once in a lifetime by the moonlight, only to die with the first morning star. It takes courage, conviction and strength to find her, to fight and preserve the beauty of life as precious and transient as humanity itself.
