The photography workshop introduces some of the basics skills required for the production of black and white photographs. This includes camera handling, black and white processing and darkroom procedures.
The Unit is taught for three hours over a period of three days, in between you are expected to undertake some time off for personal studies either visiting libraries, galleries or taking pictures in different sites or locations, you will also learn darkroom use and other techniques.
To introduce participants to camera use, materials and processes shown by the art facilitators, to develop manipulative skills and knowledge of a range of materials and processes, a short introduction to health and safety regulations and safe workshop and darkroom practice and provide participants with experiences to make choices as to their future use of media.
Be able to learn basic competences within their chosen camera and film and techniques learn in the darkroom and to have knowledge of health and safety regulations

– Light Meter: Assessing a scene for correct exposure
– Basic camera controls:
– Shutter speed
– Film speed (sensitivity)
– Relationship of aperture and shutter speed

-Do’s and Don’ts in the darkroom

-Making a contact sheet with the help of a enlarger and photographic resin coated paper

This photography course is designed for those who own a digital SLR camera and want to maximize its potential. Aimed at beginners and those with minimal experience, this course concentrates on the all important image capturing skills. Each participant will learn how to fully operate their digital SLR as well as understand the fundamentals of photography. Please note, this course does not include post-production. We keep our group sizes small with two teachers to guarantee a good-quality teaching.
We respect the ethics of photography and try to raise awareness of the impact of that images can have. Our courses are very hands on and practical. We believe that the best way to learn is to make mistakes and learn from them while being advice and guided by professionals.
To provide training in basic Digital photographic techniques, including both creative and theoretical practices, using a combination of practical work and theory. This course is delivered by two experienced and qualified art facilitators and photographers from Fotosynthesis who will inspire you to become confident and creative in all aspects of digital photography.
No prior knowledge.
Bring DSLR Camera plus a memory card.

The camera and how to use it, assessing a scene for correct exposure, over and under exposure compensation , basic camera controls such as exposure , aperture, shutter speed, ISO,Relationship of aperture and shutter speed, Aperture and depth of field, Focus, Focal lenght, Angle of View, White balance, Use of build-in flash, composition, rules of thirds and framing.
Day 2: Day Out Practice- 3 Hrs
- Practical Exercise: Shoot images following exercises in handouts.
- Place TBC
Day 3: Group preview and discussion-3 Hrs
- Share your chosen images and get professional feedbacks and answers to your doubts.
- Basic editing: Download and upload , what file size to use, what is compression and how will it affect the image.
