LECTURE . César Vallejo, Poet of Peru . March 17th

The purpose of this lecture is to encourage research on the life and work of the Peruvian poet, César Vallejo (1892-1938), as well as the larger remit of Peruvian literature and culture. The UCL Centre of César Vallejo Studies (Instituto de Estudios Vallejianos, Filial Londres) was founded at University College London on 6 January 2003 and inaugurated at Canning House on 30 September 2003 by the then Peruvian Ambassador, Armando Lecaros-de-Cossío. The founder-director is Professor Stephen Hart.

The London Centre of César Vallejo Studies operates within a research network consisting of other Institutes such as the Instituto de Estudios Vallejianos, Trujillo, Peru (Director, Dr César Adolfo Alva Lescano), the Instituto de Estudios Vallejianos, Brigham Young University, Utah, USA (Director, Dra Mara Garcia), the Instituto de Estudios Vallejianos in Caracas, Venezuela (Director, Dra Graciela Torres), the Association des Amis César Vallejo, Paris (Director, Carlos Henderson), and the Cesar Vallejo Center at Hofstra University, as well as cultural institutions such as the Peruvian Embassy, the Instituto Cervantes and Poet in the City.

It has funded the publication of four books:

4. Chiaroscuro: The Life and Work of Julio Garcia-Espinosa

The CCVS has also funded the production of five short films which trace the connections between film, poetry and Latin American culture:
