Bernardo Hualde international sales director of Vinas del Vero will be taking Boisdale guests on a journey through Spain from Barcelona to Bilbao and all the way to the Tio Pepe region of Jerez.
Hosted by Bernardo Hualde international sales director of Vinas del Vero. Members: £40 (+ 1 guest); Non Members: £65 including a three-course dinner with six wines. 7pm for 7.30pm.
Gonzalez-Gordon’s family business, Gonzalez Byass, owns several wineries throughout Spain stretching from Penedes – well-known for its production of several varieties of Cava, including the tasty “Brut NV” we will be having on the night – to the wine district if Somotano with an ancient town of Barbastro where our host’s Vinas del Vero winery is located. Vinas del Vero is set in the foothills of the Pyrenees and boasts a large variety of microclimates which accommodate different grapes including signature varieties such as the white “Clarion” recently selected for the royal wedding in Spain and vino tinto including the Garnacha and Cabernet Sauvignon. The hills conceal some of the oldest smallish yet most flavourful vines for which the region is famous.
In the northern part of Rioja Alta region nestled in the gentle hills near the wine capital of Haro, is Beronia winery which produces several varieties of red wines using predominantly Tempranillo grapes including the signature Crianza, as well as the Reserva and Gran Reserva we will be sampling during the dinner.
Last but not least we shall visit Jerez de la Frontera in Andalusia to taste the dark and nutty Oloroso (“scented” in Spanish) – a fortified wine produced by oxidative aging.
Venue: Boisdale Canary Wharf, Cabot Place, London E14 4QT
