Stair Sainty Gallery is pleased to announce the first major UK retrospective since 1938 of the late Cuban-born, Spanish artist Federico Beltrán-Masses, who painted poetic, carnal women in dark-blue nocturnal shades, in Paris in the 1920’s and 30’s. The exhibition will include his two most famous paintings, Salome and La Maja Maldita, exhibited at the 1920 Venice Biennale, as well as his portraits of Hollywood legends Joan Crawford and Douglas Fairbanks Jr, and the painter’s allegorical subject pictures which often took their inspiration from Baudelaire. A hardback catalogue of the exhibition is available from the gallery upon request.
